Aboriginal Sport Circle Proudly Presents the 21st National Aboriginal Hockey Championships

The Aboriginal Sport Circle (ASC) is thrilled to announce the upcoming National Aboriginal Hockey Championships (NAHC). The 21st Championships will be hosted in Grande Prairie, Alberta, from May 6 to 11, 2024.

A collective of Provincial/Territorial Aboriginal Sport Bodies, the ASC serves as Canada's national voice for sport, physical activity, recreation and traditional practices for First Nations, Métis, and Inuit People. The NAHC provides an annual platform for elite Indigenous hockey players from across Canada, which had a humble beginning in 2002 in Akwesasne. The Championships have moved across the country but this year marks the first time the Championships will be held in Alberta, and we couldn't be more excited!

Vanessa McGregor, Interim Executive Director of the ASC, commends all the organizers for their dedication in making this year's event a success. "It's about the youth," she says. "The National Aboriginal Hockey Championships are about building confidence, having fun, gaining valuable knowledge and skills that can be used on and off the ice, and creating memories that youth will cherish as they grow older."

Featuring both female and male teams, the NAHC is a cornerstone of grassroots and regional Indigenous hockey development. The Championships also play a vital role in fostering cultural unity and pride, celebrating the abilities of Indigenous athletes from across Canada.

The 21st National Aboriginal Hockey Championships will kick off at the Design Works Centre on May 6th. Games will continue daily until the male and female team champions are crowned on May 11th.
