Global Conversations, Indigenous Priorities

August 31, 2026

Last month, Aboriginal Sport Circle Executive Director Jaclyn Guenette joined nearly 1,000 delegates from more than 80 countries at the International Working Group on Women & Sport Summit in Birmingham, England.

The Summit brought leaders together to explore how sport can move beyond individual gains toward lasting systemic change for women and girls.

For ASC, many of those conversations - around leadership, investment, participation, visibility and stronger sport systems - connect directly to The Spirit of Sport: Active Together, Canada's National Indigenous Sport Strategy.

In this video, Jaclyn reflects on what she heard in Birmingham, the connections to work already underway in Indigenous sport in Canada and why the voices and priorities of Indigenous women and girls need to be at the centre of what comes next.
