The National Aboriginal Hockey Championships (NAHC) bring together top young U18 First Nations, Inuit and Métis hockey players from across Canada for a week of high-level competition, culture and community.

Established by the Aboriginal Sport Circle in 2002, the NAHC provides Indigenous athletes with the opportunity to represent their province or territory on a national stage in female and male divisions.

The next National Aboriginal Hockey Championships takes place in Membertou, Nova Scotia from May 3 to 8, 2027.

More than a championship

The NAHC celebrates Indigenous excellence in hockey while supporting athlete development, strengthening connections between communities and creating opportunities for Indigenous coaches, officials and volunteers.

Culture is an important part of the championship experience, with each host community bringing its own traditions, celebrations and identity to the event.

A national legacy

Since the first Championships were held in Akwesasne/Cornwall in 2002, communities across Canada have hosted the NAHC.

Champions are awarded the Turtle Island Cup, a carved wooden trophy created by Indigenous artist Carey Newman.

Many NAHC athletes have gone on to compete at the highest levels of hockey, including the National Hockey League, Professional Women's Hockey League and the Olympic Games. Notable alumni include:
